Featuring the finest orchestral players from around Gippsland under the direction of maestro David Williams OAM performing Brahms – Academic Festival Overture, Bruch – Violin Concerto No 1 with soloist Ann Roffe and Beethoven – Symphony No 1 in C Major

Brahms composed the Academic Festival Overture after receiving an honorary doctorate from the Breslau University. This overture remains one of the most celebrated in the romantic canon.

The G Minor Violin Concerto No 1 is the most recognisable work by Max Bruch bringing the composer enduring fame and featuring soloist Ann Roffe.  At aged 11, Ann won a scholarship to Chethams School of Music in Manchester, appeared on TV and performed for Yehudi Menuhin.  As an adult she is Head of Music at Catholic College Sale, has performed for over ten years with the Briagolong Bush Band and numerous string quartets. 

Beethoven Symphony No 1 in C Major, Opus 21 was the first symphony written by the greatest of all symphonists. This work which pays homage to Mozart and Haydn and acts as a beacon for the romantics who followed.
