Kings of the Blues / The Three Kings

4 Nov 8:00pm

BB, FREDDIE and ALBERT represent the pinnacle of blues guitar virtuosity.  They used a minimum to create the maximum blues effect and together they set the standard to which all others aspire.

And the kings were superb vocalists, ripping into the very soul of the blues.

Such is their influence that those who have come closest to emulating their extraordinary power are themselves regarded as Guitar Gods – people like ERIC CLAPTON, STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN, PETER GREEN and the great JIMI HENDRIX.

We are proud to have 3 of Australia’s greatest players, GEOFF ACHISON, DAVE HOLE and SHANE PACEY paying homage to these giants. They will combine their guitar slinging fretboard talents in a series of exclusive shows, performing the music of:

ALBERT KING, known for his incredible string bending and strident, lyrical stretches nailed the blues in all its beauty.

“Man, I bent my fingers out of shape trying to copy those Albert King style bends. Everything he played was so lyrical, so instantly identifiable and so uniquely him. The lesson learnt was that to truly play the blues, you need to dig deep and figure out what YOU sound like. It’s not easy to find, but Albert King’s music is just about the best example you’ll ever hear of someone who did.”

BB KING is known for his stunning, expressive vibrato and ability to make one note scream with feeling. It’s the notes he doesn’t play that resonate.

“Like a lot of young kids, I didn’t get BB’s playing at first, I’d read that he was The King and that every guitarist that arrived after him was measured against him. Heck, even Freddie & Albert idolised BB, but my young ears only heard that there weren’t that many notes, and that it wasn’t super-fast. Then WHAM! I got it. Each note drips with soul. Every phrase packed with passion. Once you connect with that, there’s no going back. BB is The King.

FREDDIE KING’s melodic playing had a passionate intensity that powers and drives the blues like no other.

“Id just discovered blues guitar when an older guy I knew presented me with a stack of old blues records and said ‘You need to listen to this stuff’ Bang on top was Freddie King’s Texas Cannonball album. Well I spun that thing about a million times and I’ll tell anyone that wants to know, I learnt guitar from Freddie King.”

GEOFF, DAVE and SHANE have all been greatly influenced by the kings and will be delivering the very best of these monsters of the blues in their own unique and compelling style.

These shows are not to be missed.

ALL HAIL THE KINGS!
